White Ash
White ash is known for being a durable, ring porous (open grained), and straight grained wood. The heartwood is light grayish brown while the sapwood is a creamy white. It glues well and responds well to finishes. Time is running out to be able to work with this species given the invasive Emerald Ash Borer continues its destruction of tens of millions of ash trees. Ash is often used for the handles of tools and athletic equipment like baseball bats. It’s also used for decorative veneer, cabinets, furniture, flooring, millwork, and crates.
